At any moment, I believe we can change our life simply by making a decision. I think for any resolution or commitment to last long term, it has to be wrapped up in your identity. It cant be a thought, wish, hope or dream. It has to be a matter of fact in your mind. Woven into your DNA. It just is. There is no other way.
This can hold true to your goals of being healthy and fit (maybe loosing weight). Instead of feeling like we're temporarily depriving ourselves in order to achieve some temporary weight goal - lets change the narrative in our mind. We ARE healthy. We choose to take time to nourish our body, mind and soul with healthful foods, quality conversation and productive habits. That is an indulgence we deserve and don't need to feel guilty about.
If we are tired of the people in our circle exuding negative energy and brining out the worst in us - then why do you continue to allow them in our space? Just move on. Don't engage in conversation. Don't make plans. Don't feel bad about it. It's that simple.
Feeling over extended and unappreciated? Stop volunteering for everything. See if there is someone you can collaborate with to take turns in handling some things.
Feeling lonely? Get involved! Step out of your comfort zone and attend an event in your local area. Show up to support your community in some capacity. Volunteer somewhere that has meaning to you. Explore new hobbies. Advocate for yourself and reach out to someone you'd like to spend time with.
Tired of feeling like you're constantly being re-active and / or on auto-pilot? Get organized! Be disciplined. Cut out the crap in your life that wastes your time. Set alerts on your phone. Block off your time. Create a new schedule.
Most everything in life is within our control. Even things that happen to us or for us, we are in control of how we react even though we aren't in control of what happens in the first place. If we desire a change in ourself, our life or our situation - we should feel so empowered that we are in control to make the desired changes!
Choose a word that helps you embody this new identity. Transformation. That is mine this year. I want to transform each aspect of my life. Mind, body and soul. I want to be intentional with my thoughts by controlling my environment. I want to be healthy and fit. I am healthy and fit. So I make choices that support my identity in that. I am strong and choose to move my body on the daily because i'm grateful I can. I take time to make healthful meals, because I deserve to feel good and I need to honor my body by nourishing it. I'll choose reading books over TV each night as a way to occupy my mind. I'll wake up a bit earlier to have time to ease into the day and set my kids up for success instead of stress and rushing.
It's all a choice. What decisions are you making. What is your identity?
